DIY Envelope Pillows for Halloween

Are you ready for Halloween?  This year I can say that I am... almost.  A couple of weeks ago I shared this tutorial over at eighteen25 and now get to share it here with all of you.  I must start with a confession though.  Before this year I have never really decorated for Halloween.  I've been figuring out my style and how to incorporate that into my holiday decor.  

Simple Homemade Halloween Costumes

How is it October 15th already?  I haven't even thought about simple homemade costumes for this year.  Halloween in the past has been one of my least favorite holidays.  Since moving here however we have made friends with those that LOVE Halloween and as a result been invited to a couple's party in the past.  Simple homemade Halloween costumes are becoming more important as I'm still not 100% in love with the holiday and hate spending money on costumes for me and the husband.  I'm sure that will change as we have kids.

Fabric Pumpkins Makeover

I know these fabric pumpkins are one of the oldest tricks in the book, but c'mon they are still pretty cool.  After making my twine pumpkin out a roll of toilet paper and now posting this project you're going to think I have an obsession with toilet paper.  I like to think of it as "Food Storage."  When the world is coming to an end and we are grabbing our most valuable possessions you can bet I will call out, "Honey, grab the pumpkins!"  Ok that's not the real reason I use tp but it is pretty funny if I say so myself.  Toilet paper is one of those perfect forms for pumpkins and inexpensive.  Fabric pumpkins were one of my very first craft projects as a newly wed several years ago.  Here is what they looked like then.

Simple Halloween Crafts and the Wrapped Letters

Who doesn't love simple Halloween crafts?  I know I sure do.  That's what I thought I got myself into when I decided to do these yarn letters and spell BOO.  Boy was I wrong.  These letters went from simple Halloween crafts to complicated, time consuming, headaches pieces of art in a matter of minutes.  Still I think they turned out pretty darn good.

Halloween Wreath and Banner

I started working on this Halloween Wreath over a month ago.  After completing my 4th of July straw wreath I knew I wanted to make one more but for Halloween and I think this Halloween wreath is even better than the original.  It's so graphic with  just the right amount of color.  I promise though this is my last straw wreath... that I know of.  It has so many different looks to it. 

Monday's Moment (October 31st, 2011)

Today's Monday's Moment is of course in honor of the holiday even if it isn't my favorite. Regardless we've had quite the weekend full of friends, activities and lots of amazing food!

First off if you have a husband like mine, convincing him to dress up is quite the chore, especially when they don't want to help come up with ideas. Since moving to this house we have made friends who like to throw together elaborate get-togethers throughout the year and for Halloween it's become tradition to have a couples only, costume required dinner party. I don't mind dressing up but I'd be ok not dressing up. I don't however like forking over $40 for a costume I will wear for a few hours. Don't get me wrong, I love to shop and I love clothes but some cheap imitation is not my forte.

Thus this year we decided on "Where's Waldo and Wanda." I know, it looks homemade but I wasn't too picky. We already had the white shirts. All we bought was red duct tape and I bought my red hat (which I will wear often). We had to put the duct tape on after we put the shirts on which limited our mobility just a little and was slightly frustrating. However, they were easy costumes and everyone loved them. When all was said and done we took the duct tape off, which didn't leave any marks on our shirt, and threw it away.

I love getting together with friends whether in person or with all my online friends. I love how holidays (even the ones I don't like) give me the opportunity to get to know others just a little bit better, to remember to laugh, and enjoy each period in my life.
